Davenport’s Dairy Freez Opens Next Week
The Dairy Freeze on Rockingham Road in Davenport is one of the areas most favorite places to gather with family.
Originally a Tastee Freez, the drive-in style restaurant looks almost exactly as it did the day it opened in 1964.
While it has, of course, changed owners and management a few times over the nearly 60 years it's been open, it has remained the crown jewel of Davenport's West End.
Alan Carter, the owner and operator of Dairy Freez, says the place opens up for the summer on Wednesday, June 2nd at 11am. Alan and his wife, Margaret took ownership of the business in 2012, and have been running strong ever since.
This year, their schedule will be a little different, being closed on Sundays and Mondays.
If you haven't been to Dairy Freez, know that the experience is as good as the food. You'll be transported straight back to the days of standing in line at a drive-in to get your burger, shake and soda.
For the full experience, crank some John Mellencamp as you sit under the shady tree, eating one of their awesome chili dogs.
Dairy Freez is known for their soft serve ice cream, shakes, burgers, and assorted fried appetizers.
If it's not on your list of places to go when things warm up, you're not doing yourself any favors.
If you know anybody looking for a good summer job, Dairy Freez is hiring now, and you should give them a call at (563) 323-2222.
I'll be there plenty of times this summer, and I hope you are too.
