Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame blues master Buddy Guy is coming to The Paramount Theatre in Cedar Rapids on Thursday, June 16th!
Guy, 85, is a multi-Grammy Award winner and blues craftsman of the highest degree, cutting his teeth with the likes of Muddy Waters and Chess Records Label in Chicago. His stand-up style of play was different from most of his peers, who preferred a stool or bench to perform from. He has influenced many of today's great guitarists like Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page and Johnny Lang. Some greats who are no longer with us, like Stevie Ray Vaughn, and Jimi Hendrix, were also influenced by Guy's music.
Buddy's performance with Lang of Midnight Train ranks up there my all-time favorite blues jams. You can hear a young Johnny trading licks and vocals, trying to keep up, and probably impress his hero, Buddy Guy.

Buddy Guy's list of rock guitarists collaborations should alone be enough to convince you not to miss this show. At Guy's Hall of Fame induction, Clapton recalled watching Buddy play the guitar with his teeth, a move later used by Jimi Hendrix. Buddy appears in The Martin Scorsese Rolling Stones film Shine A Light, playfully trading licks with Keith Richards on the Muddy Waters song Champagne and Reefer.
Buddy Guy is a skillful guitarist, great lyricist, polished showman, and bandleader. And if you need more reasons than that to go see him, you must really, really have the blues.
