DANGEROUS STALKING DEVICE: Woman Shares Her Experience Finding An Apple Air-tag In Her Bag [VIDEO]
Once again, a product meant for good is used for evil. Apple's AirTags came out in April of 2021, designed to act as a key finder, helping people find personal objects. Some people have even put them on their dog's collar to track them if they run away. Seems like a harmless device right? WRONG. This device has been purchased for the use of stalking. Many women have reported finding Apple Airtags hidden on their cars or in their bags.
AirTags are easy to hide since it is about the size of a quarter. It uses Bluetooth to connect to your device. The AirTags are relatively inexpensive and a popular way for Apple users to keep track of their belongings, such as keys and wallets. Law enforcement officials say criminals are now using the device to stalk victims or track vehicles they want to steal.
A Tiktok Video posted by @angel.edge95 shows how she found an unknown device tracking her location. The device was first seen with her at a Texas Walmart at 8:45 am. After Walmart, she had gotten on a plane, made a stop in Massachusetts, and saw a notification on her iPhone stating that there was an unknown accessory moving with her. Later that night at 12:56 a.m. she had gotten another notification that the owner can see her location.
From those notifications, she was able to pull up a map and see where she had traveled that day. Pin-points were placed on the map every time the owner checked her location. She confirmed that the device was not her AirPods because she did not have them with her at the Texas Walmart. She decided to look in her car and through her bags for an AirTag, but could not find anything.
A concerned friend reached out to her after she posted about the event on social media. The friend told her that his little sister got the same notifications and had found an Apple AirTag hidden under her license plate.
@angel.edge95 later posted an update stating that an AirTag was found taped to the roof of her duffel bag. After the AirTag was removed and reported to Police she no longer received the notifications.
@angel.edge95 also gives a tip to android users since they will not receive Apple notifications. She advises that if anyone with an Android is concerned, they can download an app called 'AirGuard.' This app will notify the user if any AirTag is near.
Although we expect technology to be used for good, we are aware that not everyone has pure intentions. AirTags used for tracking people has become more and more frequent, and it's hard to track down who exactly the AirTag belongs to. If you have received one of these notifications, first, disconnect your AirPods then reconnect them. If that does not fix the problem, check your car and your belongings for an AirTag. If you feel that your safety is in danger, contact your local police. It's always better to be safe than sorry.
