Get ready to do some holiday shopping!

Midwest Living recently put together a list of European-style Christmas markets throughout the Midwest that you can check out in 2022. If you're not familiar with these types of markets, the article says:

"The heritage of these old-world, open-air markets dates back centuries, giving local and international artisans the opportunity to peddle their steaming, spiced, glazed and glassy wares."

There are eight different markets on Midwest Living's list, and I'm happy to report that one of them is right here in Iowa! Thursday, December 1st through Saturday, December 3rd, the city of Pella will host their second annual Kerstmarkt.

According to the city's website, Kerstmarkt was inspired by "cozy" outdoor markets in the Netherlands. The event's Facebook page shows that individual huts have been moved into Molengracht Plaza for vendors.

Speaking of vendors, there will be plenty on-hand at Kerstmarkt! If you're looking for something traditional to eat, Wiseman's Gourmet Waffles will be selling stroopwafels, the Pella Kiwanis Club will serve up poffertjes, Vrienden Huis will have Dutch Letters, and the Pella Rotary Club will be serving pannekoeken. Other vendors include Maiden HollandMessy Missy'sJanssen Custom FabricationSir Winslow's ZooDe Bloemen HofPaper BaristasFrisian Farms CheeseThe Cottage Candle Shop, Bell Farm, and more. The event will also feature live music and other activities.

Kerstmarkt will take place December 1st and 2nd from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and December 3rd from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. It is free to attend. For the latest updates, you can check out the event's Facebook page HERE.

To find out more about how has the price of gas changed throughout the years, Stacker ran the numbers on the cost of a gallon of gasoline for each of the last 84 years. Using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (released in April 2020), we analyzed the average price for a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline from 1976 to 2020 along with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for unleaded regular gasoline from 1937 to 1976, including the absolute and inflation-adjusted prices for each year.

Read on to explore the cost of gas over time and rediscover just how much a gallon was when you first started driving.
