97X Tribute Fest Will Showcase The Greatest Names In Rock
Tributes to the songs of Van Halen, KISS, AC/DC, ZZ Top and Led Zeppelin will take the stage at 97X's first official Tribute Fest Saturday, September 29th at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds. 97X Tribute Fest is a fundraiser for Cure SMA.
The unofficial start of this event happened in 2016 when at a Cure SMA Gala, I placed a bid on the donated services of the Quad Cities’ hottest Tribute Band, Electric Shock-The Music of AC/DC, to win a private performance. That performance became an additional Cure SMA fundraiser, with Electric Shock and another band performing at a local Rock Club (Rascals Live.) Raffle and Silent Auction Items were added, and the Kenny Bailey From Rascals donated their draft beer sales from the night, and an idea was born!
Fast-forward to 2018, where Electric Shock is again donating their services, and when I asked, more bands have joined the fun! Mizzipi Mud (ZZ Top), Spam Halen (Van Halen), Electric Shock (AC/DC), and the Midwest’s newest Led Zeppelin Tribute band, from Chicago, Lex Zeppelin agreed to donate their performances. A larger space was required, So The Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds donated one of their convention halls for the 5 bands performances on Saturday Sept. 29. The 5th band is a special one-off performance by 97X Morning Show’s host Bill Michaels, drumming with the members of Project X as they paint themselves up and take the stage as “KISS’d Off!” (Thanks to Moments Tux Shop in Bettendorf for the suits!)
And The new My Place Hotel in Davenport is helping out, making it possible for all the money raised that night to go directly to Cure SMA! That place is like a palace!
Doors will open around 6.
Again this year we will host a silent auction, 50/50, and raffle and door prizes. Luxury Limo has already offered up 4 tickets and Limo service to the November 23rd Iowa/Nebraska Game as one raffle prize. Others will be announced as they are donated. Make plans to join us for a great night of rock Saturday, Sept. 29th at the Fairgrounds for 97X Tribute Fest!
