95% of Americans Are Troubled by the Current State of the Media
This isn't a huge surprise: Almost all Americans are worried about the current state of the news media. A new poll shows that 95% of us are, quote, "troubled" by it.
The causes for our distrust include "reports on fake news" (53%), "reporting gossip" (49%), and "lying spokespeople" (48%).
Other factors include "celebrity opinions," left- and right-wing agendas, and reporting on "blind items."
And for the most part, we don't think it's going to get better. 67% believe ethics in journalism will actually be worse during the 2020 presidential campaign.
So who can Americans trust to give it to them straight? 40% say local print and online journalists are the most ethical. 23% trust local TV reporters and anchors. 22% say national print and online journalists, and 15% say national TV anchors.
