Yesterday, we covered the last bit of a chase involving a stolen U-Haul that lasted about two hours in California. The chase ended when the truck caught fire, and the suspect jumped and ran into an apartment complex where he was caught a few minutes later.

As he sat in a squad car, a news camera operator asked the 47-year-old unnamed man if he has anything to say, to which he chuckled and replied "Good morning, L.A."

Investigators say the 26-foot U-Haul Super Mover pulling a trailer was stolen from a business in Irvine, CA. According to U-Haul's website, the Super Mover is the largest truck they offer.

The chase originated in Buena Park after an officer was able to identify the stolen truck driven by a lone male.

As the chase progressed, California Highway Patrol followed the truck as it reached speeds of 65-70mph.

The truck hit a spike strip on Interstate 91 just before 6:15am and then exited the freeway.

With one tire gone, the truck slowed to about 15mph for a time, until something in the right wheel well caught fire and continued to build until the truck became fully engulfed.

As he ran on foot, the suspect hopped 3 fences, one time losing his shoes, then falling on his back and knocking his pants down.

“He’s not a young teenage kid anymore. He’s 47 years old. He should know what these consequences are,” CHP spokesperson Marcos Iñiguez said.

Iñiguez was also surprised to see the suspect laugh as he was arrested.

The suspect was charged with the theft of three vehicles; The U-Haul, the trailer, and a motorcycle that was in the back of the U-Haul. More charges are expected to come.

Officers have four victims to follow up with that were effected by the chase.

“For them to laugh as you’re taking them away, it’s almost like they feel like it’s a slap on the wrist,” he said.
