Those of us of an older ilk might remember the days before Lake Norman was around. In the early 1960s, the Duke Power Company constructed the Cowans Ford Dam. This dam not only supplied a ton of power to the surrounding area, it created the largest man made body of water in the state. As soon as there was a beautiful lake in the middle of the state, folks flocked to call it home.
