The 2024 year has come to a close, which means 2025's budgeting is now in effect. For some companies, that means shaving off the parts of the company that aren't making the money they need to be - and that's why Louisana will be seeing one of the most recognizable department stores close.

Last February, Macy's announced it would close their underperforming stores over the course of the next three years. The list is finally out, and starting off the first quarter of 2025, Macy's will be shutting the doors of 66 locations.

Macy's saw a 2.4% decrease in sales in the third quarter of 2024, but the company continues to be optimistic.

"People have endless options when it comes to where and how they shop. Macy’s customers expect seamless shopping experiences and continuous improvements both in-store and online to meet those expectations," a press release reads.

Their new financial plan includes closing 150 underperforming stores over a three year window, while reinvesting in its other 350 locations. The first round of stores includes 66 locations closing.

“Closing any store is never easy, but as part of our Bold New Chapter strategy, we are closing underproductive Macy’s stores to allow us to focus our resources and prioritize investments in our go-forward stores, where customers are already responding positively to better product offerings and elevated service,” said Tony Spring, chairman and chief executive officer of Macy’s, Inc in a press release.

It feels thematic in the closings if you look, 25 of 66 locations are attached to a mall.
