There May Be A New Record For Iowa’s Fastest Speeding Ticket
This weekend a record was broken, though it's not one to be proud of.
We all can get a case of lead foot and not even realize we're going 10 over, until we see a cop sitting on the side of the road and we slam the brakes - an absolute admission of guilt.
The current record for all time speeding ticket is held by a guy named James Foldenauer, who was busted driving 188mph on his motorcycle through a construction zone back in 2009. The record of the for a car is a different story.
In December, the record was broken near Manchester at the interchange of US Highway 20 and Highway 13, where a person was clocked in at 126mph in their Mustang - without any insurance, namely an SR-22, which is required after an incident where you have lost your driver license. In this driver's case, he had a prior OWI which had resulted in the loss of his license.
A New Record?
As far as state law goes, if you're caught speeding 31mph or more over the speed limit, it's a $500 fine. It starts at 20mph over the limit, it's $100 plus an additional $5 for every mile per hour over the speed limit.
This weekend, a man was caught driving 132mph near Lamoni, Iowa, the Iowa State Patrol shared.
UNBELIEVABLE! Trooper Richard Smith stopped this driver on I-35 (near Lamoni), driving to Des Moines from Missouri and was "running late". Speeding like this is NOT just reckless - it's a threat to EVERYONE on the road!
At 135mph, your stopping distance would exceed 1000 feet, making any chance of avoiding an accident nearly impossible.
