Taco Bell Worker Shoots At 3 Customers For Using Water Cups For Soda
Are you one of those people who asks for a water cup, and then, when nobody's looking, puts Sprite in the cup instead, like you're fooling the workers? I've always been afraid to do it, because I don't want to deal with the interaction I'll have if one of the workers sees me do it. After seeing this news story, I think I've made the right choice.
Two customers at a Taco Bell in West Palm Beach, Florida went to the counter to ask for a cup for water from star employee, 20-year-old D'Mari Jy'Quan Patterson. Once the customers got their water cups, they filled it at the soda fountain, which prompted an argument between Patterson and the two customers.
As the verbal argument continued, a third customer walked into the restaurant. The argument got worse and worse, and after more escalation, Patterson started yelling at the customers to “Do something! Do something! Do something."
Another employee came over and removed him from the customers. As the employee urged the customers to leave, “the sound of the slide of a firearm being racked is clearly audible," according to the report.
Patterson swung his arm and struck one of the victims, firing off a shot right next ot her head. The other victim, fell to the floor after being pistol-whipped.
After the video cuts out, there was another shot fired, at the third person who was trying to escape. This shot missed her narrowly, going through the restaurant's window.
The three customers got into a car and drove themselves to JFK North Medical for treatment. Two of the customers sustained minor injuries.
Patterson called the authorities right away and told the police he believed the customers had weapons, and they “rushed him and his coworker," and admitted to "pulling his gun and firing shots in the air."
According to the, affidavit, "Patterson did intentionally and unlawfully threaten by word or act to do violence” to the victims. He also brandished and discharged a gun, “which created a well-founded fear in the victims that such violence was imminent.”
D'Mari Jy'Quan Patterson was arrested and charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a firearm.
