QC Will See a Total Lunar Eclipse This Weekend at 11:11 p.m.
If you make wishes at 11:11, you can make a special one this weekend in the Quad Cities.
A total lunar eclipse will happen on Sunday night. Here's what you need to know if you want to see it (per WHBF):
- It will be from 9:27 p.m.-12:55 a.m.
- Look to the southeast when you go outside to see it
- The total eclipse will start at 10:29 p.m.
But the cool part is when the maximum eclipse happens, which will be at 11:11 p.m. It's 'maximum' because that will be the moment when the moon is the closest to the Earth's shadow. So wish, manifest, vibe however you want to for that one.
At 9:27 p.m., look toward the lower left side of the moon. That area will start to darken as the eclipse begins. As it progresses, the moon will turn red because of refraction, which is the bending of light. Basically, that's the same thing that makes sunsets red on Earth. By 10:30 on Sunday night, the moon will be dark.
Around midnight at 11:53 a.m., the eclipse will begin to break and the moon will reemerge. If you're really planning to make this an all-nighter viewing event, around 1:00 a.m. is when the eclipse will be completed and the moon will be fully back in view again.
It's probably not in my wheelhouse to host an eclipse-long party until 1:00 a.m. on a Monday morning but it still sounds like a fun little nugget to go outside and check out this weekend.
