Passing Gas Does Not Help You Burn Calories
There's been a myth floating around on the Internet that says you burn 67 calories every time you pass gas. And if that were true, there would be way more skinny guys walking around.
You don't have to take my word for it. A gastroenterologist at the University of Michigan just confirmed it's totally false. The average person passes gas 14 times a day and burns exactly zero extra calories in the process.
"The only way you would achieve even a modestly quantifiable number of calories burned by farting is if you maximally strained your abdominal muscles to release a fart, an unlikely scenario aside from when exercising."
