When officers arrived, they found 34-year-old Kristin State of Iowa sitting in the driver’s seat of a running car. She was the only person inside.

Signs of Impairment Noticed by Officers

Police reported that State showed clear signs of intoxication. Officers said she smelled strongly of alcohol, had watery and bloodshot eyes, and spoke with slurred and delayed speech. Despite these observations, State told officers she had not been drinking.

She was asked to perform several field sobriety tests, which she did not pass. Investigators said she failed two of the tests and showed additional signs of impairment during the others.

Blood Alcohol Level More Than Four Times Legal Limit

A breath test later revealed State’s blood alcohol concentration to be .351, which is more than four times the legal limit in Iowa.

Multiple Charges Filed

State was taken into custody and now faces several charges, including operating while under the influence, driving while her license was denied or revoked, and tampering with an ignition interlock device.

Court documents also show that this is not her first offense. State has three prior operating while intoxicated convictions within the past 12 years.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
