Last week a man was photographed in Wisconsin, driving a Chevy Malibu with a snowmobile strapped to the roof.

When asked why he was hauling on a car, and not on a trailer or truck, he said this only cost him $10 more in gas than it did just driving the car.

Tommy Mecher isn't from Wisconsin, nor was he staying, just passing through. With snowmobiling, the hardest thing to do is find a cost effective place to either keep your snowmobile until it's time to drive a few hours to snow, or find a place with constant snow that you don't break the bank to get to.

Tommy picked up the 1990 Polaris Indy 500 and got some needed minor repairs in his hometown of Lemont, IL. His dad lives in Bessemer, MI, a 430-mile trip.

Tommy said he was often asked the legality of his style of transportation when stopping for gas. He saw many police officers, some even waved at him.

This all reminds me of the time I was driving through Wisconsin and saw the same thing on a different car.
