The days are getting longer, but we still have a lot of winter weather left in Iowa for 2025. With weather patterns changing, conditions can be very different from western to eastern Iowa.

But does the Farmer's Almanac say the weather will differ in Council Bluffs, Des Moines, and Davenport?

Yeah, they've been doing this for a while.  Now the 2025 edition is out with more than just the forecast.  It's for the big-time farmer and the backyard gardener.

You can learn to grow (almost) anything, how to start up a flock of chickens, and even how to give the perfect hug.  The Farmer's Almanac is much more than a forecast.

However, the forecast is still what they do best.  And for the country as a whole, Carol Connare, the Almanac’s editor-in-chief says, “This winter, temperatures will be up and snowfall down throughout most of the United States."

All of Iowa is covered by one region.  The Farmer's Almanac calls us the "Heartland Region".  Has a nice ring to it.  The region also covers the majority of Missouri, more than half of Kansas, eastern Nebraska, just a bit of southern Minnesota, and the southwest corner of Wisconsin.

For Iowa, the Almanac says winter will be warmer than normal.  The coldest periods will be in late January and early and late February.

They also say snowfall will be below normal as well.  But...

But Wait, The Breakdown Shows More For Eastern Iowa

The Heartland Region is a big region.  So the overall forecast doesn't remain the same for the entire area.  When looking at the full map you will see that eastern Iowa, including the Quad Cities, can expect a mild and snowy 2025 winter.

So we won't freeze, but we'll have a lot of snow to shovel.  Or maybe it will be warm enough to snow and then quickly melt.  Whatever it will be, we're definitely not done with winter yet.  Sorry.  But hey, we're only 19 Mondays away from Memorial Day and the start of summer.
