An incident near Rockford this week has left one man dead.

Skydiving, though exhilarating, is also inherently dangerous. Unfortunately, a mid-air incident led to one man being injured and another dead. And this was just 2 days after another jump led to another death.

The Wednesday Jump

According to NBC Chicago, Ogle County police responded to the scene at 8887 S. Illinois Route 251 in Rochelle (halfway between Chicago and the Quad Cities) near Chicagoland Skydiving Center.

A preliminary investigation found that the two skydivers collided in mid-air, collapsing both parachutes. They set off their reserve parachutes, but it didn't work for one man, who entered into an uncontrolled freefall.

When deputies got there, they found a 40-year-old man in the parking lot who sustained "significant" injuries and was later pronounced dead.

The second skydiver was found about a half-mile away, at Kortiz Field-Rochelle Municipal Airport. He had minor injuries and was taken to the hospital.

The incident is still under investigation and the Ogle County Sheriff's Office says that more information will be released.

The Monday Jump

According to CBS and News 25, on Monday, 48-year-old dental entrepreneur Dr. Noel Liu died after a jump at Skydive Chicago in Ottawa.

Not many details are available about that one yet. It's only known now as an "accident" (obviously) but no further information about what happened has been released. Preliminary autopsy results are pending and forensic and toxicology reports are still pending.

Liu was the CEO and founder of Secure Dental, which has locations across the country.
