Iowa Has Two Of The Most Bed Bug Infested Cities In The U.S.

The bed bug scare continues in 2024 and for good reason. The disgusting little bugs are causing a problem across the U.S. The Paris bed bugs bed bugs did the same in Europe.

Two cities in Iowa both have a really bad bed bug problem. One of those city's problems is getting worse while the other is improving. These are the only two cities in Iowa to make 2024's top 50 cities with a bed bug problem.

Paris Isn't The Only City With A Bed Bug Problem

The city of Paris was put in a terrible spotlight in 2023 due to its bed bug problem. Actually, most of Europe was dealing with bed bugs and it got really bad. It still is pretty awful.

During the summer and the fall, bed bugs became a massive issue in Paris and they continue to spread all over the place.

Reports of bed bugs being found in Parisian schools and trains. Bed bugs have been found on passenger ships leaving France and going to other parts of the world. In December, a school in Boston was put on high alert due to a bed bug outbreak.

There's A Bad Bud Bug Problem In Iowa

At the start of the year, Orkin releases its list of the top 50 cities with the worst bed bug problem.

The pest control company found that two of those cities are in Iowa. Last year, Cedar Rapids and Davenport made this list and it's the same in 2024. But Davenport's bed bug problem is on the rise.

Davenport this year landed at #29 meaning it is at least in the bottom half of cities with the worst bed bug problems in the U.S. Cedar Rapids landed out of the top 30 in 31st place.

Last year, Davenport was at #37. Yes, Davenport moved up 8 spots from year to year. A city in North Carolina moved up 25 spots and Milwaukee moved up 15 spots. 8 is still a lot though.

Cedar Rapids went down 8 spots to 39th.

Bed Bug Problem Across The River

If you had a slight sign of relief thinking bed bugs weren't a problem on the Illinois side of the Quad Cities, think again. Chicago continues to top Orkin's list for the fourth year in a row.

The other Illinois city that made this list is Champaign. They landed in the top 10 on Orkin's list in 2024.
