Iowa Loves Candy Corn The Second-Most In America
It is National Candy Corn Day!
Candy corn is like the Halloween version of eggnog: you either love it, hate it, or you love to hate it. Personally, I love candy corn and I object to all of the dragging it gets this time of the year.
The sweet, waxy treat has huge fans in the Midwest, according to recent numbers from Brach's and Instacart. That's 2 sets of statistics to back this up.
First, the stats from Brach's show that the top 10 states that love candy corn the most are:
- Utah
- Iowa
- Kansas
- Indiana
- Missouri
- Kentucky
- Michigan
- Colorado
- Oklahoma
- Minnesota
48% of all of the 22-million candy corn pieces Brach's makes every year are sold in the top 10 states.
As for the Instacart numbers, they found Iowa buys 72.8% more candy corn compared to the national average.
The other half of the argument is: how do you eat candy corn? 58% of people say they just eat the whole thing. 28% of people say they start at the white end, 15% of people start at the orange end (which feels like a crime against food but yeah sure).
If it's a visual thing for you, remember mallowcreme pumpkins exist, which is just candy corn flavor in a pumpkin shape. The harvest candy corn flavor is candy corn with a chocolate addition.
Candy corn may contain remnants of bugs and bones. It contains gelatin, which is extracted from animal bones and some confectioner's glaze is actually made out of bug secretion.
Personally, I don't care, I'll still enjoy candy corn this time of year!
