Illinois Has 2 Of The Most Bed Bug Infested Cities In The U.S.

The bed bug fear continues for travelers in 2024 as they have made a resurgence. The Paris bed bugs were a hot topic but major U.S. cities are dealing with the same issue.

Two cities in Illinois have an awful bed bug problem and among those two, one of them has the worst problem in the U.S. for the fourth year in a row.

Paris Isn't The Only City With A Bed Bug Problem

The city of Paris was put in a terrible spotlight in 2023 due to its bed bug problem. Actually, most of Europe was dealing with bed bugs and it got really bad. It still is pretty awful.

During the summer and the fall, bed bugs became a massive issue in Paris and they continue to spread all over the place.

Reports of bed bugs being found in Parisian schools and trains. Bed bugs have been found on passenger ships leaving France and going to other parts of the world. In December, a school in Boston was put on high alert due to a bed bug outbreak.

Bed Bug Problem Is The Worst In Illinois

At the start of the year, Orkin releases its list of the top 50 cities with the worst bed bug problem.

The pest control company found that two of those cities are in Illinois. Last year, three Illinois cities made this list but Peoria fell off of the list. The other two cities on the other hand are in the top 10 with one still having the worst bed bug problem overall in the U.S.

The two Illinois cities that landed on the list of the cities with the worst bed bug problem, and also in the top 10, are:

• 10. Champaign
• 1. Chicago

This is the fourth year in a row that Chicago has topped the list of the cities with the worst bed bugs problem. Champaign was 11th in 2023 clearly showing the city's problem is growing.

Bed Bug Problem In The Quad Cities

If you had a slight sign of relief thinking bed bugs weren't a problem in the Quad Cities, think again. Davenport, Iowa went up 8 spots on Orkin's list from 37 to 29.

We're also learning in 2024 that Cedar Rapids, MI, not Iowa, was among the top 50 cities. Cedar Rapids, breathe a sigh of relief, for now.
