Ahead of the extreme cold, some schools are already closing.

As we all know, it's about to get really chilly around here. So much so that frostbite could happen within 15 minutes in Davenport.

That weather is set to hit us Friday and Saturday and ahead of the negative wind chills, school districts are already announcing closures for Friday, January 23rd.

Davenport

Davenport schools have cancelled classes but varsity games and practices scheduled for Friday night will continue as planned.

Bettendorf

Bettendorf also announced that the weather has cancelled classes for tomorrow, along with all morning and night activities.

Highs on Friday may not get past 0 degrees (-1 is the current number), and Saturday morning will feel like -30 outside. The super cold weather can also result in school delays because of it's impact on the diesel in the buses.

Of course, you're advised to limit your time outside as much as you can and check on elderly family/friends.

The last time the Quad Cities had a sub-zero high was 1/14/24, when it got down to -7 for a high. This time around, watch out for frost quakes, frozen pipes, and all of the trials that come along with super cold weather.

While the main concern with this system this time is the super cold, there are also signs of snow developing for Saturday afternoon south of the QC. The good news is that the worst of it looks like it will gone by Sunday, when it will warm up to 13 (hey, it's better than -1).
