Humanoid Robot Dances At Gate, Delays Flight For Chicago Midway-Based Airline
Try using this excuse as to why your flight was delayed.
We know American & United have been having their own situation at Chicago O'Hare.
Things aren't quite the same for the Chicago Midway-Based Southwest, especially considering one of the airline's "passengers" last week.
A Southwest flight was trying to get from Oakland, California to San Diego. Elite Event Robotics was traveling with Bebop- a 70-pound. 4 ft. tall, humanoid robot built for events and performances.
They bought a seat for child-size Bebop, because what exactly are Southwest's rules for this, and the crew kept asking what kind of batteries it has.
The struggle over that led to the flight being delayed for an hour.
But have no worries, Bebop made sure to entertain everyone at the gate with a little dance.
Southwest Airlines did make a statement on it. There's no word on what kind of event the robotics team was taking Bebop to.
Southwest confiscated Bebop's lithium battery as it exceeded the amount allowed on a flight.
But don't worry- Bebop's batteries were overnighted to Chicago.
Bebop's batteries were only removed after Bebop had already boarded the plane when the crew decided they should probably check the size of the robot's batteries.
In general, lithium batteries have restrictions from the TSA because of their fire risk.
