Major Auto Parts Retailer to Close Hundreds of Stores Nationwide Including Tennessee
One of the largest auto parts retailers in the country has announced plans to close over 700 stores nationwide by mid-2025.
Potential Closures in Tennessee
This decision is part of the company's broader strategy to improve business performance following a decline in sales. While specific locations have not yet been identified, the impact will be felt across the U.S., including Tennessee, where several stores could be affected.

A Plan To Improve The Productivity Of Advanced Auto Parts
The closures come as the company navigates a challenging market. According to Advance Auto Parts' third-quarter earnings report for 2024, the company has experienced a 2.3% drop in comparable store sales, and net sales have decreased by $100 million compared to the same period in 2023. The company’s president and CEO, Shane O’Kelly, emphasized that these actions are part of a strategic plan to "improve productivity" and enhance shareholder value.
Although it's unclear which specific stores will close in Tennessee, the company has shared that 523 corporate-owned stores, 204 independently operated locations, and four distribution centers are on the chopping block. While some closures are expected, Advance Auto Parts is also expanding its reach by opening 60 market hub locations by 2027, though the company has not provided further details on potential job losses resulting from these closures.
Tennessee is home to many Advance Auto Parts locations, and with the company undergoing restructuring, residents and employees in the state may see some of these stores close in the coming months. As of October 2024, the company operates 4,781 stores across the U.S. and has closed 29 locations this year alone. Despite the closures, the company continues to look forward with a new three-year financial plan aimed at improving the productivity of its assets.
What Does This Mean for Tennessee?
Tennessee residents may notice a shift in their local shopping options, especially if their nearest Advance Auto Parts location is one of the stores targeted for closure. However, with new market hubs opening by 2027, the company may still offer its services in new formats across the state. For now, the exact locations of closures in Tennessee remain unknown, and customers are encouraged to stay informed about potential changes in their communities.
For those in Tennessee relying on Advance Auto Parts for their automotive needs, it's important to keep an eye on further announcements from the company to see how many stores might be affected in the Volunteer State.
