Iowa-Based Ice Cream Company Recalls Nearly 18,000 Containers Sold In Iowa, Illinois
You may need to check that ice cream in your freezer.
While we love that it's ice cream season, we hate to share news of a recall. But that's what we've got.
According to NBC News, Blue Bunny Ice Cream (which is based in Le Mars, Iowa) is voluntarily recalling almost 18,000 containers of ice cream and frozen yogurt at the risk of batches possibly containing plastics.
The full list of recalled products is on the FDA's website but it includes 3 gallon containers of:
- Rocky Road ice cream (Best by date: 10/10/26)
- Mocha Almond Fudge ice cream (Best by: 10/9/26)
- Peanut Butter N' Fudge ice cream (Best by: 10/7/26)
- Scooper Hero ice cream (Best by: 09/26/26)
- Country Rich vanilla ice cream (Best by: 10/17/26)
The whole recall involves 22 flavors in the 3-gallon tubs that were sent to distribution centers in Iowa, Illinois, Michigan, and Texas. Their best by dates range from March 2026 to October 2026.
The recall is classified by the FDA as 'Class II' meaning that eating the ice cream could cause "temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences".
If you notice your Blue Bunny ice cream flavor and best by date is on the list, check the lot numbers too and see if they line up. According to foodsafety.gov, don't eat the ice cream if you discover it's among those that are being recalled. Check the recall notice to see if you can take it to a store for a refund. If you've already opened it, dispose of it so that no pets can get into it.
