Multiple Rounds of Storms This Weekend For The Quad Cities
Enjoy the sunshine today, because the Quad Cities is looking at a massive shift in the weather over the next few days. We have a beautiful, warm afternoon ahead, followed by a multi-day stretch of stormy weather, with Monday bringing the highest risk for severe storms.
Friday: Enjoy the Best Days of the Week
Friday: This is the pick of the week! The rain will clear out, leaving us with mostly sunny skies. It’s going to feel like summer, with highs reaching the upper 70s to the mid-80s.
Over the Weekend: The Muggy Air and Storm Potential Build
Another round of weaker storms will move through Friday night, but the real change happens Saturday.
Over the weekend, warm, sticky air is going to pump into the area, and highs will stay in the 80s. That heat and humidity act like "fuel" for the atmosphere. Because the air will be so loaded with energy, we are looking at several different rounds of thunderstorms from Saturday all the way through Monday. Weather officials have already issued an early alert for the weekend, placing our area under a Level 2 out of 5 risk for bad weather. This means storms are likely to pop up, and some of them could easily become severe.
Monday: The Main Day to Watch
While Sunday afternoon and Sunday night could bring some nasty weather, Monday looks like the most dangerous day of this stretch. A powerful storm system is moving in, and it's combining with strong, fast-moving winds just above the ground. This setup is incredibly efficient at organizing storms and keeping them alive.
Because of this, Monday brings a threat for all types of severe weather, including:
- Large, damaging hail
- Strong, destructive straight-line winds
- Tornadoes
