A lot of surveys are rolling out right now, and a lot of people are answering those surveys because there's nothing better to do.

SWNS ran a new survey to find out what America thinks the hardest working jobs in the country are, and the results are about what you'd expect.

1. Nurses

They work 12 hour shifts, sometimes without any breaks for food. They don't discriminate. From a sliced finger that needs a stitch or two, to triaging victims of horrific scenes, nurses are definitely the hardest working people out there.

2. Doctor

They have to know it all. They give the good news, and the bad news. They're doctors, but they're also detectives. When it comes to their patients, they're often times fixing things they can't see.

3. Paramedic

These guys are the precursor to nurses. They're on scene while the action is still going on. As soon as the scene is secure, they're working. Providing immediate aid to those until they can make it to the hospital. Plus, if they're good, they trade in the ambulance for a helicopter.

4. Police Officer

When you're running for something, they're running towards it. They're first on scene in the event of any emergency. They pull over on the side of the road to change your tire, but they'll also be the first one there when you're in the most dangerous of situations.

5. Firefighter

They will literally run into a burning building to save you and your family. Nuff said.

6. Surgeon

I have a lot of respect for these guys. They spend about a decade in school, because they want to. Surgeons know everything there is to know, and they know how to fix it.

7. Healthcare Worker

CNA's, MA's, Dentists, Hygienists, PA's, NP's, Pharmacists, the list goes on and on. There's much more than what meets the eye in the healthcare system. Surgeons, Doctors, and Nurses may be higher on the list, but they have their support system behind them.

8. Bomb Squad

Anytime these guys go to work there's a chance they won't come home. Like, a 50/50 chance. When terror strikes, these guys know what they're doing.

9. Farmer

Farmers are the reason we have food, beer, tobacco, and the list goes on and on. If you eat it, drink it, wear it, smoke it, a farmer was involved.

10. Prison Warden

If you're in this job, you're with the worst of the worst. The scum of the planet, and it's your job to rehabilitate them.

The survey also asked people for the signs of a hard worker at any job. And here are the top 10...

  1. Helping coworkers when you don't need to.
  2. Always meeting deadlines.
  3. Volunteering for work.
  4. Always getting everything done on your to-do list.
  5. Getting through more work than anyone else.
  6. Getting in early.
  7. Staying late.
  8. Keeping a to-do list.
  9. Never procrastinating.
  10. Volunteering for meetings.
