Three Big Events Heating Up Iowa This June: BBQ, Bingo, and a Rib Cook-Off
The Fruitland Fire Department is firing up the fun this June with three exciting events designed to bring the community together and raise funds for a great cause. From a smoky rib competition to a Taylor Swift-themed bingo night, there’s something for everyone to enjoy while supporting the local fire department.
Event #1 – Blues & BBQ Fest Promises a Smokin’ Good Time
On Saturday, June 28, the annual Blues & BBQ Fest returns to 151 North Street in Fruitland. This family-friendly day is packed with food, music, and fun. The event kicks off with a rib smoking competition at 8 a.m., where local pitmasters compete for the title of best ribs in town.
Live music will fill the air with Blues Rock-It taking the stage from 3–6 p.m., followed by crowd favorite Monica Austin from 6–9 p.m. Guests can also enjoy a kids' play area, local food and drink vendors, raffle baskets, and merchandise. All proceeds go toward supporting the Fruitland Fire Department’s efforts to keep the community safe.
Event #2 – Rib Cook-Off Puts BBQ Skills to the Test
Think your ribs are the best? Then the Fruitland Fire Rib Cook-Off is your chance to prove it. Also happening on June 28 at 151 North Street, this competition invites teams to showcase their BBQ talents.
The entry fee is $50 per team, and ribs will be provided to the first 25 teams that register. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, along with a People’s Choice award. Judging includes cash prizes and trophies. Live music from 3–9 p.m. will keep the party going while the grills stay hot. Registration info is available on the Fruitland Fire Department’s Facebook page.
Event #3 – Swifties, This Bingo Night Is for You
If BBQ isn’t your thing, maybe a night filled with Taylor Swift hits and bingo is more your style. On Friday, June 21, head to 104 Sand Run Rd for Taylor Swift Bingo Night.
Doors open for an evening that promises to be “Bejeweled” with themed prizes, photo ops, sing-alongs, and friendship bracelet trading. Swifties are encouraged to dress in their best Eras Tour outfits and bring the energy. Bingo cards and pizza will be sold for $5 each, with proceeds supporting the Fruitland Volunteer Fire Department’s equipment and operations.
