If the "culture" of the Quad Cities had to be defined, it's probably based around music, art, film, and comedy.  Which, by no way a coincidence, is being highlighted by the Alternating Currents festival in Downtown Davenport, August 18th-21st.

In fact, my first view of the culture of the Quad Cities came through a book by Beverly van Hook, where the Putnam Museum was the location of the crime of stolen shrunken heads.  Super Granny was my favorite book in 3rd Grade.  She painted a picture of what it was like in the "cities" (as us outskirts called it).

Since then, the Quad Cities have proven to be a beacon of art. Downtown Davenport itself looks like a museum with different pieces along the streets.

It's important to keep this spirit alive.  We need to get the new generation to appreciate what we have here in the QC without being forced through school to learn about it.

Great news

From now until the end of July, you'll be able to get into the Figge for free.

"Thanks to the generous support of Cal and Jill Werner, the Figge Art Museum will offer FREE admission during the month of July. Visitors will have the opportunity to see the current exhibitions on view including John Leslie Breck: American Impressionist. Check out all the happenings including Big Picture in the House free program every Wednesday, special programming for Thursdays at the Figge, art classescamps, and more!"

This is a GREAT way to take get some family time while taking in some culture and sharing the love of art with the young ones.
