There seems to never be a regular news story out of Florida. Even something as (sadly) common throughout the rest of the country as domestic assault charges have their own sort of "Florida" twist. This story left the sauce splattered all over.

Police in Marion County, Florida (home to Ocala, Reddick, Belleview, and Fort McCoy), were dispatched to a residence after a 911 hang-up left dispatchers feeling suspicious of the home.

Upon their arrival at the home, officers made contact with 39-year-old Ortelio Alfonso, who said he had a "verbal altercation" with his spouse, according to the probable cause affidavit.

The victim told police that the situation had turned violent, and said Alfonso "grabbed a slice of pizza and slapped her in the left side of her face with it" during the couple had been arguing about the disciplining of their son.

One of the officers noted that the woman had pizza sauce all over her shirt, and “remnants of pizza in her hair and ear area.”

Additionally, the officer reported, “I observed there to be pizza sauce on the walls and the ceiling of the kitchen area which further corroborated the victim’s statement.”

Officers placed Ortelio Alfonso in handcuffs and read him his rights, and Ortelio then admitted striking the victim “with the slice of pizza in the face." He said he threw the pizza and “did not physically strike the victim with his hands, just with the pizza.”

Alfonso was arrested on a misdemeanor battery count and booked into the county jail, with a scheduled court appearance on March 29th.

Just for giggles, here's Hairball slapping his passed-out drunk friend with a piece of pizza to wake him up.
