Most everyone dreams of the perfect proposal, and this one was absolutely perfect until it wasn't.

30-year-old Lewis Paterson planned to give his girlfriend the perfect fairy tale engagement in front of the Château de Castelnaud, which overlooks the river Dordogne in the south of France. Nicola Bolton, Paterson's girlfriend, noted her favorite Disney movie was Beauty and the Beast, which made this location a perfect spot to propose.

The proposal started off great, and then, got a little crappy...

When Paterson opened the ring box to pop the question, the engagement ring flew out and landed in a pile of horse poop that was laying on the side of the road.

The couple was shocked by the flying ring and immediately began searching for it. Fortunately, they found the ring on the side of the road, unfortunately, they found it nestled within a pile of horse manuer.

Horse poop or not, Nicola Bolton accepted the marriage proposal.

“She said yes. Right after I dropped the ring in a pile of stable hay and horse s–t,” Paterson said according to the Mirror. “It was never going to go to plan with me at the wheel,” he admitted.

The couple has been together for three years, and are now excited to spend the rest of their life together.

“We couldn’t believe it. She saw the funny side of it luckily and we both haven’t stopped laughing. At least I got to propose to my princess in her ‘Beauty and the Beast’ village,” Paterson said.

Some commenters on various posts decided to sh*t on their happily ever after story:

These haters are probably single. Either way, I am happy for the couple and wish them the best!
