A couple from Kentucky told to police that they had taken six baby sea turtles back to their hotel keep them safe from other tourists.

They had noticed other people on the beach in Tybee Island, Georgia were trying to grab the hatchling turtles as they crawled towards the ocean. The couple admitted they were drunk when they "placed them in a cup and took them to the room for safety."

The police were first notified when a housekeeper at the hotel found the six loggerhead sea turtles in a trash can filled with water. Since loggerheads are classified as a threatened species, the couple could see fines as high as $10,500 for touching one.
