Driver Evades Police in Maserati At Over 100mph, Collides Under Freeway
The California Highway Patrol's Oakland Office shared images Monday showing the aftermath of a chase after a speeding driver in a Maserati.
The 32-year-old male driver on Interstate 580 sped up to over 100mph before the pursuit started, according to the California Highway Patrol.
As the driver exited the freeway, he drove up an embankment and slammed into the underside of the freeway, according to their statement.
"It was a short-lived pursuit," explained Officer David Arias, a spokesperson for Oakland CHP. "He didn't make it far before he exited and as soon as he exited, instead of going straight, he veered left, went off the ramp and then went up the embankment and collided with the underside of the freeway."

The pictures they shared show the car flew up the embankment and wedged itself in a place we've only ever imagined a car being stuck.
"It's unbelievable that he didn't die," Arias said. "It's crazy that he lived."
The driver was taken to a hospital because of a complaint of pain, and will be facing charges for reckless evading, according to the California Highway Patrol. A more detailed investigation is underway.
Nobody else was in the Maserati, which Arias said is owned by the suspect's girlfriend.
