Starbucks just rolled out their new holiday cups. They went with just a bright red cup with the green Starbucks logo. In the past they've had snowflakes, a dog sled, a snowman, or ornaments.

So some people are outraged. Specifically people who think the lack of any Christmas stuff on the cups is a sign that Starbucks has joined the 'War on Christmas.'

Now, it's not like Starbucks was ever super Christmas-oriented with their cups. It was mostly generic winter stuff. You could even argue that they just went minimalistic this year, which is a trend in modern design. But you get the picture.

There was even a topic trending on Twitter and Facebook this weekend to tell your barista your name is "Merry Christmas", to get them to write that on the cup.

Starbucks REMOVED CHRISTMAS from their cups because they hate Jesus ... SO I PRANKED THEM ... and they HATE IT!!!! #shareUse #MERRYCHRISTMASSTARBUCKSFollow --> Joshua Feuerstein

It seems like if you really want to stick it to Starbucks, getting "#MerryChristmasStarbucks" to trend is the worst way to do it. Brands pay millions for sponsored hashtags, Starbucks just got it for free.

If your way of "pranking" Starbucks involves buying a cup of their coffee, I'm pretty sure the joke's on you. #MerryChristmasStarbucks
