You might think without many states allowing gatherings like a Super Bowl party, people would eat and drink less. You'd be thinking wrong.

According to the National Chicken Council, even with a significant drop in parties, Americans are still projected to eat a record number of chicken wings during the Super Bowl - approximately 1.42 billion.

To put it into perspective:

  • If you ate 3 wings a minute with no breaks, it would take you over 900 years to finish that meal.
  • 1.42 billion wings would stretch the circumference of the Earth 3 times.
  • That's enough to feed every Super Bowl attendee since 1967 about 40 wings.
  • If you laid them end to end, you could reach from Arrowhead Stadium to Raymond James Stadium 19 times.

That's actually 2% higher from last year and works out to an average of over four wings for every person in the country.

The survey also found that wings are the most popular Super Bowl food in the country, with 49/50 states reporting them as being the number one snack. The only hold out was Maine, who apparently thinks "Gosh, the big game is on this weekend, we gotta get some lobster!"
