Help Davenport Firefighters Fill The Boot For A Great Cause
Many of us are going to be enjoying a long three-day weekend with Labor Day happening on Monday. Before we enjoy the long holiday weekend, the Davenport Fire Department is out raising money for a great cause in its own unique way. Today and tomorrow, you can help Davenport firefighters "fill the boot" to raise money for MDA.
Today (Thursday), is day two of the Davenport Fire Department's fundraising event, Fill The Boot. In a social media post on Tuesday, the department took to social media to let the community know that they will be at different locations this week and during Labor Day weekend raising money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).
In its social media post, the Davenport Fire Department said for the past 68 years, the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) has collected donations in the community as part of the MDA’s Fill the Boot program. The partnership between MDA and the IAFF began when the IAFF signed a proclamation designating MDA as its charity of choice. They vowed to continue raising awareness and funds to ensure effective treatments and therapies are found.
The money raised through Fill the Boot fund MDA’s mission of empowering people living with neuromuscular disease to achieve their potential.
As a part of the IAFF, the Davenport Fire Department is continuing that commitment by collecting funds this week and through Labor Day weekend. On Wednesday, the Davenport Fire Department had firefighters at all Hy-Vee stores, Aldi on Brady, Fareway, and the Freight House Farmers Market collecting donations with Fill the Boot.
Today (Thursday) and Friday, Davenport firefighters will once again be at all Hy-Vee stores, Aldi on Brady, and Fareway from 4-7 p.m. with boots for you to fill.
You'll also be seeing Davenport firefighters in the community this long Labor Day weekend collecting donations for MDA.
