Company Begins Making “Patient-Specific” 3D Printed Prosthetic Testicles

Sadly, there are quite a few men out there who've lost their testicles to cancer, tumors, torsions, and other terrible (albeit sometimes hilarious) injuries. While doctors can oftentimes prescribe a prosthetic set, it still takes a psychological toll not unlike that a woman feels after a mastectomy.

The problem is the current market in Korea has many high-cost, low-quality options, but nothing cost effective that provides a similar feeling. According to a Korean team of scientists, replacements of poor quality can cause “psychic impotence,” and an “inferiority complex” that causes “personal relationships to fail.”

Additionally, given that many fake testicles come in the same size, it's not true to the human body, where everyone's size and shape vary just as they do. The wrong size can cause discomfort, or even cause damage and escape from the body. So, a team of scientists decided there has to be a better way.

Hyunjun Park, Dongkyun Kim, Byungwoo Lee, Sungho Kim and J. Wang got together with their respective universities, and created a design for 3D Printed testes. The team used a combination of silicone with a thinner to create the balls out of a hard rubber to even simulate the feeling of the danglers.

Using patient data, they were able to create custom nuts that were less prone to failure, because the design is for the body, not the other way around.

The new nuts will run about $750 USD.
