Hairball: Yesterday, nearly everybody was talking about the Cleveland Browns helmet reveal. Not because the helmet was so cool, but because one of the camera guys fell into the water.

I'm calling BS, and I'm tired of staged guerrilla marketing for virality. You can't tell what's real and what's not anymore.

The Initial Video

The angle that was circling the internet yesterday that was admittedly funny. The Browns reveal their new "ALPHA DAWG" helmet by pulling a tarp off of a giant helmet that's on a floating platform on the river for some reason.

As the tarp comes off, one of the camera guys on the edge of the platform seems to misstep and fall off the platform.

The internet loves bodily harm, and fails. That's nothing new. So, naturally, jokes about the Browns not even getting a helmet reveal correct started spreading with the videos. It exploded.

My first thought was wow, that's exactly what I would've done as the guy who's responsible for making sure our stuff goes viral.

Then, I had another video come up that made me even more suspicious.

Evidence #1

SportsCenter shared a different angle of the reveal, from a boat on the backside of the float. As a guy who does dumb crap like this, I didn't have to look closely to see the hesitation and feeling with the feet toward the edge of the platform.

Look closely at his feet. Then, the even more unbelievable thing about it is the way his leg swings which flips his body even further off the platform.

As I zoomed in for a closer look, I saw something else.

Who the hell is this old lady?

Then I thought, she looks a whole lot like the Granny from those viral internet videos, remember her?

The Nail In The Coffin

Turns out, it sure as heck is her.

Not only is it her, the guy who fell into the water while recording is her grandson, Ross Smith, the goofball content creator who has 25 million followers on TikTok.

How am I so sure? Because he posted a version of the video with his POV SAYING THAT IT'S HIM!

Are we not even trying anymore?!?!

To me, this makes me loathe the Browns even more - and that Ross Smith guy. I've never been a fan of his stuff, purely because of how bad of an actor he is. I'll laugh at skits and staged videos - because nothing on the internet is not staged - because all they are is entertainment.

At first, I wanted to give kudos to the Browns for faking a viral moment, but they never - ever should've had that guy be the one to do it, because as soon as he's attached, everyone knows it's not legit.

If they wanted to do this the right way, it should've been a no-name intern or media manager, and decided upon by them and whoever they report to.

Let's do better, and stop faking so much internet stuff.

While you're here, stop over and see the 15M+ view viral video of me and Megan trying to jump over our desk.
