Blue October is coming to the Rhythm City Casino this Friday.

My first introduction to the band was in 2002.  My wife, who at the time was a girlfriend, and I were at the Pig Pen in Clinton to check out Blue Ash Ink.  We didn't expect anything but a great show from a great local band...but what we got was my wife's new favorite band.

The story goes, that Blue October was just passing through on an off night and called up Robbie (Pig Pen owner) and basically needed some gas money.  So, they ended up opening up for Blue Ash Ink and we got to see a great show.

Since then we've listened to multiple albums over and over, seen Justin's solo acoustic show in Chicago and cheered them on from afar.  I'm glad we'll be able to see the band again on Friday.  It's really been 17 years since we've had the chance and the amount of life lived between now & then is an eternity.

I got to talk with lead singer, Justin Furstenfeld about where songs come from, how meaning is found and how sometimes it's a surprise to even the songwriter.

We chatted about sobriety, favorite singers, and relationships with songs from the past even though they were born in troubled times.

We're really looking forward to the show.
