An Open Letter To The Trucker Who Didn’t Attempt To Fit Under The Brady Bridge
I saw a very rare sight on my journey into work this morning and I have to shout out the observant trucker who made it possible.
To the trucker who realized that his/her truck would not fit under both the Main St. bridge and the truck-eating Brady St. bridge,
Thank you for setting an example for truckers everywhere. This kind of observant, intelligent driving seems to be vastly lacking when it comes to this specific bridge and it is astonishingly beautiful to see an example of how trucks should be driven. Not like this:
and certainly not like the most recent one:
Instead of letting any of that be you, you stopped at a reasonable distance from the bridge, turned the truck around on Brady, and went on your merry way.
I understand that it was extra work for you to turn your truck around from both the even lower 10 ft. clearance Main St. bridge and from the 11 ft clearance Brady St. bridge, but you were very wise in not choosing to take the "easy" (ultimately problematic for you and everyone else) route and attempting to fit under either of them. You turned around without causing much disruption to traffic, an additional skill in a big truck.
We know the bright yellow flashing lights and obvious low clearance signs are apparently proving very hard for those driving tall vehicles to see so we applaud you for using your eyeballs and your intelligent judgment to avoid making a mess all over Brady or Main Streets.
Truckers far and wide, if you are coming through Davenport on a route, learn from this great prophet. Do not attempt the Brady St. bridge. You cannot make it and when you don't, we will be there to take pictures of your decapitated ride.
