A New World Record Has Been Set For Longest Fingernails: 42 Feet
Diana Armstrong from Minnesota has officially broken the Guinness World Record for the longest fingernails on a pair of hands, as well as the record for longest fingernails on a pair of hands ever.
Measuring a combined 42 feet, 10.4 inches as of March 13, 2022, makes her fingernails longer than a school bus if laid out end to end.
Diana has been growing her nails for over 25 years.
The longest nail she has is a whopping 4 feet, 6.7 inches - her right thumbnail. Her shortest left pinky fingernail is 3 feet, 7 inches long.
The last time Diana cut her nails was in 1997. That's a year before Hairball and Studio Helper Megan were born, if that gives you any sort of idea how long it's been.
Shortly after the trim, a tragic accident pushed her to never trim them again.
While at the store, she received a phone call from her youngest daughter, one no parent wants to receive.
"At the store, my baby daughter called me and told me 'Ma, Tisha won’t wake up.'"
At just 16, Diana's daughter, Latisha, had passed away in her sleep from an asthma attack.
"That was the worst day of my life."
Diana always had longer than average nails, but it was because Latisha manicured them every weekend.
"She was the only one who did my nails. She polished them and filed them for me," Diana told Guinness World Records. "She did my nails that night before. We was up all night, so I just couldn't cut my nails off after that."
Her kids wanted her to cut the fingernails, but after explaining the reasoning behind not trimming, they understood.
"Every time I look at my nails I think of my daughter. I think she’s my guardian angel."
