William White, a WWII Veteran, Retired Marine, and Purple Heart Recipient, is celebrating his 104th Valentine's Day unlike any other one he's had.

A mountain of 70,000 cards surround "Major Bill," a retired major in an assisted living facility in California.

The "Operation Valentine" campaign was started on social media by one of William's neighbors in the facility. He asked for 100 cards, but the response was overwhelming.

White's granddaughter delivered a bundle of cards from her fourth grade class. Letters from every state and multiple countries poured in for the vet, who had 35 years of active service, in which he was wounded at Iwo Jima.

He says he never has celebrated Valentine's day, even when his wife of 42 years was alive.

"All of a sudden here, like a ton of bricks. I'm sort of speechless."
