Wrigley Field Adds Local Breweries to its Beer Roster
Old Style may be the tradition at Wrigley Field, but it sounds like things are about to change.
Starting this year they're adding local brewers Three Floyds and Begyle, plus an expanded presence from Half Acre, Revolution, and Lagunitas.
For years, Wrigley Field has served mostly Anheuser-Busch products because of a deal struck between the team and the beer distributor in 2013. Anheuser-Busch will continue to be well represented at the park, but the park would like to take a more progressive approach leading to the accelerating presence for craft and local beers.
Half Acre will more than triple its availability of Daisy Cutter Pale Ale in 16-ounce cans; its Pony Pilsner will be on tap at two locations in the ballpark.
Revolution Brewing’s new Every Day-Hero Session IPA will be on draft at two locations in the ballpark, Anti-Hero IPA will be on draft at one location and 16-ounce cans of Fist City Pale Ale will be available at two locations.
Begyle Brewing, a Northwest Side brewer, will enter Wrigley Field for the first time with 16-ounce cans of Begyle Blonde.
Perhaps most exciting for the craft beer faithful, Three Floyds will have Gumballhead wheat ale available in 16-ounce cans (which will be sold only at entertainment venues; it will otherwise be distributed in 12-ounce cans) and Zombie Dust pale ale on draft.
Craft beer pricing will be between $10 and $12, according to the Cubs’ concessions management partner, Levy Restaurants.
I'm really looking forward to this year's Ditch Day when the Chicago Cubs take on the Cincinnati Reds. Something I'm considering is trying to find the vendors that offer the different beers in the park.
It'll be really interesting to see how this changes the park in the upcoming years. As the popularity of craft brews become more popular I'm willing to bet the tradition of drinking Old Style and Bud will be outdone by a more local presence.
