Vegans Have Worse Hangovers Compared to Meat Eaters
Utrecht University in the Netherlands recently conducted a survey of 13 social drinkers to study hangover symptoms between people with different diets.
Twenty Three hangover symptoms were watched in patients after an easy night, and after a night out drinking including nausea, heart palpitations, headaches, vomiting, dizziness, sweating, and sensitivity to sound and thirst.
During the study, those studied reported their diets. It was found those with less nicotinic acid (B3) and zinc in their diets had much worse hangovers. Low zinc intake was "significantly associated" with puking, and low B3 was noted to cause more severe hangover symptoms.
Zinc is found in meat, shellfish, and legumes. Vitamin B3 can be found in animal products, grains, peanuts, avocado and mushrooms.
Seems that by this evidence, the rumor that vegans have a lower alcohol tolerance is true. Perhaps you could save money by eating vegan for two days before a night out, popping some B3's and eating a burger before bed. I'm no scientist, so maybe don't follow that advice.
