Dashcam Footage Shows Moment A Plane Collided A Semi Truck
UPDATE: As more details have come out, it appears the landing gear of the plane collided directly with the truck, and also hit a light pole which landed on a Jeep driving by.
A bakery driver had quite a scare but is lucky to be walking away from the accident after a low flying plane on approach to Newark airport clipped a light pole, which fell and hit his truck as he traveled down the interstate.
Officials say it was Flight 169 traveling from Venice, Italy, to Newark, that collided with the light pole around 2pm. The plane landed safely and taxied to the gate, and all 221 passengers and 10 crew members were unharmed, likely unaware their ride had clipped something on the way in.
"Upon its final approach into Newark International Airport, United flight 169 came into contact with a light pole," United said in a statement to FOX Business. "The aircraft landed safely, taxied to the gate normally and no passengers or crew were injured."
New Jersey State Troopers took the call and arrived on scene around 1:58pm. The preliminary investigation they conducted found the plane's landing gear and underside struck a pole and the tractor trailer, and the pole hit a Jeep traveling along the interstate as well.
"The crash remains under investigation, and no additional information is available," New Jersey State Police told FOX Business.
"The agency has directed United Airlines to secure and provide both the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder to support the investigation. A preliminary report outlining the facts and circumstances of the event is expected within 30 days," the NTSB told FOX.
