Last night (Tuesday, June 14th) the Angles were facing the Dodgers in the Freeway Series opener at Dodger Stadium. In the top of the ninth inning, Homeplate umpire Nate Tomlinson was struck in the face by the broken end of Mike Trout’s bat.

As the centerfielder took his swing the bat snapped in half sending a shard of wood flying backward into the umpire's mask. Tomlinson jerked backward throwing off his mask and fell to his knees.
