Snowstar’s 45th Season Suddenly Ends — Quad Cities Says Goodbye Until Next Winter
Winter fun in the Quad Cities has officially wrapped up for the year.
Snowstar Winter Sports Park in Andalusia, Illinois, announced that its 45th season has come to an end. The popular winter attraction shared the news on Facebook on Friday, March 6, thanking the community and staff for another successful year.
A Big “Thank You” As The Slopes Close
“We appreciate all those who visited Snowstar for the 25-26 season,” the post reads. “You make it all worth the hard work and effort put in every year. A special thanks to our staff, you are the best!”
The park typically runs its winter season from mid-December through early March, depending heavily on temperatures and snow conditions. This year’s projected closing date was around March 8, which lines up with the timing of the announcement.
For many families in the Quad Cities, the end of the Snowstar season marks the unofficial end of winter activities.
A Winter Tradition In The Quad Cities
Snowstar has been a staple for local winter recreation since the early 1980s. Located just minutes from the Quad Cities, the park features about 28 acres of skiable terrain, multiple lifts, and a popular tubing hill.
Visitors can ski, snowboard, or simply enjoy tubing down the hill, making it a favorite destination for families, school groups, and first-time winter sports enthusiasts.
The park also includes a lodge with food, drinks, and warming areas where guests can take a break from the cold. During busy winter weekends, the hill often fills up with visitors looking to enjoy one of the only ski-style experiences in the immediate Quad Cities area.
According to the park, visitor numbers can vary greatly each year, depending on the weather, but around 1,000 guests typically come through the park each season.
What Happens Next For Snowstar
Even though the ski season has ended, Snowstar doesn’t completely shut down.
The property hosts private events, weddings, and outdoor activities during the warmer months. In recent years, it has also added zip-line tours and other off-season attractions to keep the park active year-round.
For now, though, the snow guns are off and the lifts have stopped spinning until temperatures drop again later this year.
If weather cooperates, Snowstar is expected to reopen for the 2026–2027 winter season sometime in December. Until then, Quad Cities winter sports fans will have to wait for the snow to return
