Smallest Town, Largest Donation To MDA: That’s Iowa
On their 30th anniversary Camanche MDA weekend, organizers had hoped for a double record. A record number of donations raised for MDA this year, which would ensure a new record for the Iowa farming community with a population hovering around 5,000.
Over the previous 29 fundraisers, Camanche residents and their friends and family have helped raise $607,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, an organization dedicated to curing muscular disease. You read that right, over $600,000 raised.
Well, with the $66,000 they raised last weekend, that makes their new total to over $675,000 raised in the last 30 years. That's a staggering amount of money that is something that makes me proud to live in the area we do.
The Paasch family became intimate with muscular dystrophy, when twin brothers Jason and Joshua were diagnosed, and friends of the family organized a basketball tourney to help with expenses. And, just to help...
Since then, many groups, individuals, friends, family and extended family (Once you've helped, you're family) have helped this little town in Iowa become one of the biggest families in MDA history.
