Shoplifter Pulls Grenade On Store Employees
A man is behind bars after allegedly threatening employees of the Nugget Supermarket after they caught him attempting to shoplift items from the store.
The incident occurred around 2pm at the Vacaville, CA store, and warranted a response from a military explosive ordinance team.
Police said 23-year-old Octavio Rodriguez was suspected of shoplifting.
When employees confronted him about the stolen goods, he allegedly pulled out what appeared to be a grenade and threatened to use it on the employees.
Officers arrived in minutes, and arrested Rodriguez. The grenade was moved to a concrete garbage enclosure in the parking lot of a nearby store.
Members of the Travis Air Force Base Explosive Ordinance Disposal team were called to dispose of the grenade, which they determined to be empty and decommissioned.
Rodriguez was transported to Solano County Jail where he is expected to be booked on suspicion of assault as well as criminal threats and other miscellaneous charges.
