Officer Doug Williams of the Rock Island Police Department retired yesterday after over 20 years of service in the department.

His last radio call was caught on video and shared to the department's Facebook page. In the call, he starts off by thanking everyone in the department for helping him further his career.

"Attention all Rock Island Units, we announce after 20 years and 6 months of service, Rock Island Police Officer Douglas Williams is retiring with his final 10-42."

Some of Officer Williams duties, and surely there are many more, included:

  • Firearms Instructor
  • Hostage Negotiator
  • Bicycle Officer

But you may know him as the department's school resource officer, where he served four years, "longer than anyone else had to do it," dispatch noted.

Thank you Officer Williams for your service to your community. We wish you the best in your future endeavors.
