This day in 1996 we celebrated the reunion of Kiss as the Alive/Worldtour rolled into the Quad Cities. It was the first tour with original members Peter Criss and Ace Frehley since their 1979 Dynasty Tour. The tour grossed $143.7 million, making it the most successful Kiss tour to date. This was 1 month before I started working at 97X...21 years ago. The Melvins opened up for them...which was great for me because I am a Melvins fan...but I remember the rest of the crowd not appreciating them.  And did Mike Patton from Faith No More get on stage with them at some point?  Am I confusing 2 concerts?

I rode to the show with my buddy Horner, who is a HUGE Kiss fan.  We were drinking root beer schnapps, if I remember correctly, and listening to the live album "You Wanted The Best, You Got The Best" that had recently come out.  The show, as you see from the setlist, was steeped in 70's era greatest hits. Since this was the 1st time I'd seen them...and it was a reunion tour...there was no room to gripe about the lack of more recent album tracks.
